Primo volume della Collana "Quaderni Digitali di Archeologia Postclassica". La catacomba di Villagrazia di Carini è uno dei principali monumenti del primo Cristianesimo siciliano, cimitero di una comunità agiata e aperta alle relazioni con l'area mediterranea. Lo studio proposto in questo volume, partendo dai dati relativi ai materiali ceramici restituiti dalla stratigrafia archeologica dei settori indagati dal 2000 al 2012, testimonia i rapporti commerciali intercorsi fra il territorio servito dalla presenza del complesso catacombale, coincidente con quello dell'ecclesia carinensis citata da Gregorio Magno, e l'Africa romana e protobizantina.

The essay concerns the results of the archaeological excavation carried out in the area East of the s.c. "hypogeum L" in the Early Christian cemetery of Agrigentum in the year 1999; it contains, also, the catalogue of the Medieval coarse and cooking wares (ollae) found in the area, and the different types of supports used in the ceramic workshop established in the Late Antique cemetery during the Middle Ages.

The materials found in the catacomb of Villagrazia di Carini consist essentially of African Red Slip Ware, coarse ware of probable African production and oil lamps, both Tripolitan and types Atlante VIII and X. This report, part of a wider project involving the ancient landscapes of Himera and Thermae, presents the archaeological and archaeometric results on Late Roman amphorae and coarse/cooking wares from Termini Imerese. The aim is also to illustrate the distribution of the same types of Roman pottery in the hinterland of Thermae, where the Dept. of Cultural Heritage of Palermo University has carried out intensive surveys (from 1982, published from 1988 until 2009).
